as the daughter of a biochemist and one of south korea’s most successful actresses lee jinha, mijoo was thrust into the public eye at an early age. she started acting at six years old, initially starting in comedy sitcoms, but over time, she began to pick up more “serious” roles and by the time she was 16 years old, she had progressed to horror films. it wasn’t long until she regarded as a “scream queen” as most of her projects were of the horror and thriller genre. despite her successful acting career, mijoo longed to follow her father’s footsteps in the sciences, so, she enrolled in yonsei university as a biology major and continued to make movies.

in 2016, mijoo filmed a remake of the highly acclaimed movie poltergeist. it was a box office hit, but she did not get to enjoy the success as her fellow cast members and director started to drop like flies. additionally, many weird phenomena would occur on set. mijoo, the living cast members and the public began to believe that they had been affected by the same infamous “poltergiest movie curse ”that had befallen the original movie’s cast members.

after getting in a near-fatal car accident several months after the movie premiere, mijoo grew paranoid of this curse and swore off acting forever. instead, she would pursue a ph.d.

originally, mijoo was enrolled in yonsei university’s doctorate program, but after experiencing some possibly supernatural encounters, she felt as if spirits and malevolent entities followed her wherever she would go.

two years into her program, she decided to move overseas in 2018, transferring to a program at the university of lavande after hearing about the quaint town’s calming atmosphere and lavender fields. after years of grueling hard work, mijoo graduated from the program in 2023 and was offered a job as lab coordinator and adjuct professor as the university took a liking for her intelligence and tenacity.

to this day, she worries about entities following her, but lavande’s atmosphere has been able to keep her fears at bay with more success than seoul.

I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach this course. Together, I hope I could help you not just learn not just about the fundamentals of cell biology, but to also help you grow as a student and future scientists, doctors, etc. Please do not hesitate to reach me through email or pop in my office if you require help or have any questions.

INTRODUCTION: Cell Biology is a study of cell structure and functions that determine the function of whole multicellular organisms. This field of study arose from a union of the disciplines of biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology as well as anatomical cell biology. As such, the discipline of cell biology will encompass a broad spectrum of investigative techniques and a vast knowledge base. In this course, we will study the structure and function of organelles and important macromolecules as well as biological processes and their regulation.

01 : although fall 2023 was the first semester where mijoo started teaching classes, it didn't take long for her to gain notoriety for her classes and exams being extremely difficult. a popular rumor among the science community at lavande is that they have never seen a student not come out of her office hours without puffy eyes and a red nose, which is perplexing because she is known to be friendly. she's an extremely tough grader, but her curve at the end of the year often saves her students from completely flunking the class. in the fall, she taught the cellular basis of disease course and this spring, she is teaching cell biology.

mijoo’s current TA for her cell biology course. it seems like something crazy happens to you before every single lab period—either your phone did not ring its alarm, you witnessed a car accident on the way to the lab, your roommate projectile vomited on you, etc., and you show up at least 20 minutes late without fail. it drives her absolutely crazy, but she doesn’t have the motivation to look for another TA. she’s stuck with you until the end of the semester.
